Description

One of the most beautiful parts of a Charlotte Mason education is the emphasis on first-hand knowledge of nature and experience of the outdoors. In Parables from Nature, author Margaret Gatty uses animals, trees, plants, and other features of nature to illustrate timeless truths about character, faith, and virtue. Reading about nature isn’t the same as being outdoors, but stories can bring new meaning to outdoor experience and model the art of observation.

This lovely Australian edition contains Gatty’s first four story collections, which have been carefully rearranged to match the AmblesideOnline reading order (years 1-3). The original typographic decorations give the book a quality, vintage feel, and the original thought-provoking epigraphs from poetry, hymnody, and scripture begin each chapter.

There are 29 parables in all.

Margaret Gatty (1809 – 1873) was a British author who was deeply interested in marine biology. She wrote over a dozen works of children’s literature, and was acquainted with both Alfred, Lord Tennyson and Lewis Carroll.
