Marketing Strategies

The Key to Business Sucess

Although having a home business sounds like an ideal situation for mothers at home, downsized or outsourced workers, homeschooling families, and many in the creative arts, the reality is that having a great product or service is only one part of the entrepreneurial equation. The key to success-- even survival-- is marketing.

Potential customers need to be able to find you and determine whether you are offering something that meets their needs or fulfils their wants. If you can't be found, people can't purchase your products or services. Even if you already have a customer base, you need to regularly remind them that you are still available, and that you have more to offer.

There are many marketing avenues, and I'll try to summarize each of them so that you can choose those that best fit your product or service. We'll discuss:

  • Websites
  • E-mail Marketing
  • Catalogs
  • Yellow Pages
  • Postcards
  • Coupon Packs
  • Magazines
  • Direct Mail
  • Anything else I think of...

I'll also offer a selection of "guest expert" articles that will teach you more about each option, as well as about marketing in general. Check back regularly for updates!

Affiliate Marketing
One terrific way to increase your income is to add affiliate links to your website. This is called passive income, because once you add the links, your work is done. It's totally free to become an affiliate, and each time someone clicks a link and purchases one of the products you list, you earn a commission! This is the company I use to process my e-book orders and affiliates. They are one of the oldest in the industry, and despite a less-than-intuitive website, they do a great job, and their tech support is excellent. I highly recommend working with them!
